The Saturday Plan
The ‘best’ day of the week
Our Saturday plan is definitely the most popular part of the programme. On Saturday mornings international students come to Rockbrook School for English classes followed by a fun activity or cultural visit in the afternoon. Students are dropped to Rockbrook by their host families at 10:00am and collected in the evening at 5:00pm. It’s a great opportunity to make friends with other international students, have fun and experience Dublin city. Supervision, transport and entrance fees are all provided. The Saturday plan gives a nice structure and dynamism to the homestay programme, similar to what you would find in boarding schools. Rockbrook students are never bored on weekends!

Cambridge Preparation Classes
Students attend Cambridge Preparation classes on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 12:00 in Rockbrook School. There are generally about 15-20 students per class. They cover the principal sections of a Cambridge exam paper; Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Conversation topics and grammar work are also covered. Our Saturday teachers are experienced and dynamic. Students have the opportunity to sit a Cambridge exam on two occasions each year: in December and in May.
Afternoon Excursions
Saturday afternoons are dedicated to doing fun activities and cultural trips in Dublin city. Depending on the weather they could be indoor or outdoor. We vary the activities every Saturday. It could be a cultural experience like visiting a famous castle or museum or a fun activity like bowling, cinema, wall climbing or trampolines. Young and dynamic adult leaders accompany the students on these activities. In September and in May students will do an all day visit to a popular fun park near Dublin.
Pocket Money
Students do not need much pocket money since everything is generally provided (e.g. schoolbooks and uniform, Saturday bus and activity fees). We recommend an average of €25 to €30 per week as pocket money. Irish families will feel uncomfortable if there is a student in their house who has too much money to spend. If desired, the pocket money of each student can be kept and administered by their tutor or host family.
Sundays
Sundays are a free day. Students can make their own plans and meet up with friends or they might be invited to take part in a family plan. Or they may just want to relax after a busy week…
Benefits
Our Saturday plan is unique and has many benefits. Friendships are made with students from all around the world. Over a year or semester strong bonds are formed between the students. The emphasis is on having positive experiences and this creates nice memories.
Students also interact with Rockbrook staff members so it gives us an opportunity to see how everyone is doing.
All in all it makes our programme one of the most complete high school programmes in Ireland.
